Recently, I have taken up a new hobby. I find it exciting to watch movies alone on Netflix. I have been trying to discover what kinds of movies can brighten my day and lift my spirits.
Thankfully, I came across an anime film called Spirited Away, which I immediately fell in love with. It also sparked my curiosity about other films produced by Studio Ghibli.
Spirited Away (2001) has received high ratings, and I can confidently say that it is one of my favourite movies I have watched this year.
This movie made me realise that I enjoy stories in which the main character is thrown into a completely different world.
In Spirited Away, Chihiro enters the spirit world, and the story centres on her journey as she faces various challenges while trying to save herself and her family before eventually returning to her normal life.
I find this story very relatable because it reminds me that human beings are vulnerable to pain and suffering. At the same time, the movie gives me hope that everything will eventually be all right as long as we keep moving forward and face our obstacles with patience and confidence.
Apart from that, the characters in this movie have taught me memorable life lessons. This made me realise that I enjoy movies that convey good moral values and meaningful lessons to their audiences. I particularly appreciate lessons that focus on manners and character, as they motivate me to become a better person. I believe that good character is one of the most important aspects of our lives.
One character I particularly love is No-Face. I can see that No-Face wants to repay the kindness Chihiro shows him, such as when she allows him to enter the bathhouse while it is raining and bows to him when they encounter each other.
However, I would say that No-Face goes about expressing his gratitude in the wrong way. He mistreats others in his attempt to meet Chihiro and offers her an abundance of gold because he believes this is the right way to make her happy.
I have thought a lot about this scene because it is very relatable to me and to our society. Sometimes, we have good intentions, but expressing those intentions in the wrong way can lead to harmful consequences.
For instance, a person may neglect or abandon their responsibilities towards the people around them, using the excuse that they want to spend more time alone with God.
Such behaviour can be misleading, as it suggests that the person does not fully understand what it truly means to be good.
On the other hand, the movie also made me realise that we sometimes misunderstand someone’s behaviour as bad when, in reality, they may have good intentions but are simply misguided in their actions.
Another reason I like this movie is that it portrays human flaws. It reminds me that everyone is trying and struggling to become a better person, and that everyone deserves the opportunity to be guided towards the right path.
In conclusion, I believe Studio Ghibli excels at conveying meaningful values and life lessons through its films. I would recommend Spirited Away to others and encourage them to reflect on the lessons it offers.
I believe that different people will take away different lessons from watching Spirited Away, and I am grateful for the values and insights I have gained from this movie.
