Hong Kong actor Peter Pang, who has been battling rectal cancer since 2023, continues to work hard to support his family of five and shoulder the ongoing costs of his medical treatment.

According to reports, the 55-year-old recently secured a role in a new drama, The Thorn, and travelled to Yunnan, China, for filming. He has been based in the country in recent years.

Pang told the media that he has “no choice but to tough it out” to provide for his family and fund his treatment, as he is the household’s sole breadwinner.

He reportedly spends between HK$20,000 (RM10,337) and HK$30,000 (RM15,505) a month on cancer treatment and health supplements, as per HK01.

After putting his career on hold for more than a year to focus on treatment, Pang – whose condition has since improved – has depleted most of his savings.

At one point, the former TVB star was forced to borrow a six-figure sum from family members to cover urgent expenses.

He is now seeking to raise HK$300,000 (RM154,982) in anticipation of further treatment.

Pang was diagnosed with stage three rectal cancer in July 2023, when doctors discovered an 8.8cm tumour and advised him to undergo surgery.

However, he opted to pursue supplements and other alternative therapies instead, as the operation would have resulted in the lifelong use of a colostomy bag.

The tumour has since reportedly shrunk to 2.8cm.

In a Xiaohongshu update last year, Pang revealed that due to his tumour, he sometimes needs to use the toilet more than 10 times a day.

To manage the frequent urgency while maintaining a demanding work schedule, he said he relies on sheer focus and discipline to get through his daily routine.
