Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh once again laughed off her bad luck at the mahjong table after losing a hefty sum during another game night with friends.

The TVB star revealed on Instagram that she recently reunited with comedian-actress Sandra Ng, Mirror member Edan Lui and Error member Yip Leung for a rematch after suffering a crushing defeat back in March.

Determined to redeem herself, Sheh said she headed into the game full of confidence despite being teased by her mother during a video call.

“Are you going to donate money to Fatboy again?” her mother joked, referring to Leung’s nickname.

Sheh confidently replied: “Don't worry, I feel like I'll definitely win today!”

Her mother, however, immediately shot her down, saying: “It’s good to be confident, but how can you possibly beat them?”

As it turned out, her mother’s prediction was spot on.

Sheh ended up losing again – this time reportedly a four-figure amount – and later laughed it off, saying she had “lost badly” and could only treat it as “tuition fees”.

Still, the actress said the night was worth it because she “won friendship instead”.

After the mahjong session, her friends surprised her with two birthday cakes as part of an early birthday celebration. She turns 51 on May 28.

Photos shared online showed the group laughing and posing together in a lively atmosphere.

Pop star Lui later jokingly commented: “Tribute to the Fatboy gang,” while Leung cheekily replied: “No mercy,” seemingly teasing that Sheh had become their “steady source of income”.

This is not the first time Sheh has lost to the younger stars at the mahjong table.

According to China Press, she previously revealed in March that she had asked Leung to take over her seat when she had to leave early for work.

However, he ended up losing heavily to fellow player Jer Lau of Mirror in a single round, wiping out her chips.

At the time, Sheh joked that she had every reason to suspect the group had “conspired” against her, while Lui hilariously admitted: “No need to suspect it – we did conspire. Let’s play again next time.”

Many netizens have since joked that the actress had wandered into a “honeypot trap”, but two months later, Sheh still bravely returned for another round – much to fans’ amusement.
